Every year I think to myself that I’m going to do an ‘awards’ comic highlighting my favourite games of the year.  Unfortunately, every year I seem to be far too busy in January to actually pull it off!  Instead of doing what I normally do (nothing) I’ve decided that I would at least post about it and let everyone tell me how wrong I am.  I’m not saying that these are necessarily the best games of the year, but they’re the ones that resonated with me more than others.  When you’re ready, hit the jump and let’s count them down!

You know, since I’ve been doing this whole comic thing I’ve picked up quite a few t-shirts and cheap knick knacks.  Typically, I’m not swayed by such things but this thing is friggin’ awesome.  Today, in my mailbox, I found a box containing the gear pictured above. The box also included some simple instructions:

  1. Go to GearsOfWay.com/LastDay
  2. Enter the code on the back of the Gear
6 of 14

6 of 14

Doing so unlocks a small icon.  The file was called 6 of 14, so I’m assuming there are more of these things out there.  I’ve seen photos of this gear pass through my RSS reader a few times so I can probably visit Kotaku or Joystick to find out more.  Are there other things to unlock? I have no friggin’ idea.  I haven’t browsed the website in depth yet but maybe I’ll find the time this weekend.

If you’re interested in seeing some more high resolution photos of this thing I’ve uploaded a few (including a snap of the box it came in) to my Flickr page.

Comics on hold, to resume *very* shortly

Hey everyone, so I’m starting to get some emails about, well, the lack of a comic so far this month.  I think a lot of people expected a Ninja Gaiden one and more.  There are other great, totally Xbox related, things brewing and I’ll be finishing them up this weekend.  If I’m super fast I’ll also get a new comic out aswell for Ninja Gaiden or maybe Lego Indy.  We’ll see.

On a gaming front, I’ve been playing quite a few things…

I finally picked up Super Smash Bros. Brawl.  This game is a lot of fun to play with the kids, but it’s pretty boring by myself.  I guess that’s the way it’s supposed to be, so I’m not going to complain about it!  In fact, I wish more games had four player local play!

Microsoft was kind enough to send me an advance copy of Ninja Gaiden.  Maranda played it pretty hard for the first weekend before it’s general release and we both decided that this game isn’t for us.  It’s for, like, the hardest of the hardcore.  If I was 18 I would love that game.  Too bad I’m 29 with three kids, a mortgage and a 40+ hour a week day job!

I had a LAN gathering at my place and we played the PC version of Supreme Commander.  Back when I was a PC gamer I used to love playing RTS games.  I’ve tried all the Xbox ones, but none of them ever control as well without a mouse.  This game was a lot of fun and the scope was insane.  Zooming all the way out to see the globe really puts a new perspective on the game (litterally)!

DMC4 arrived from GameAccess.ca yesterday and I played through to the second level.  To be honest, I found the cut scenes in that to be way too long, I don’t know how I would contend with that other game.
